Welcome to the
Mark Walford Pottery website

My wonderful Italian wife Patrizia and I run our pottery from our workshop and gallery at Hilton Court in Pembrokeshire, Wales. There are three directions for the work - crystalline glaze, a matt stoneware range and  Patrizia's jewellery. Our main work is the development and production of crystalline glaze ware. 

2007 turned out to be a very happy year. After the usual frustrations of moving home and the work involved in moving the pottery the year in our new surroundings was a joy. In June we visited Japan for a five day trade mission to make first steps in finding markets, meet people involved with ceramics and experience a wonderful city. We hope that some business will develop from this trip and would like to thank International Business Wales for their support and organisation for this venture.

It is now our main market for our work though we are still fully involved with Pembrokeshire's best craft group, The Pembrokeshire Craft Makers. I am still experimenting with a variety of different recipes and firing alternatives. We have been  wood firing and producing reds and purples, now experimenting with orange crystals, though there is no end in sight to the experiments, is there ever? Recently we have achieved pinks and reds which is very pleasing. Please remember that visitors to our workshop at Hilton Court are welcome.

Con la mia moglie italiana Patrizia abbiamo un laboratorio di ceramica in Galles, UK.

Nel nostro lavoro  si evidenziano piu' direzioni dallo studio e sviluppo della tecnica del crystalline glaze, scultura in terracotta, design e  realizzazione di gioielli in porcellana e stoneware decorati con crystal line glaze  al gres e ceramiche dipinte con vedute di paesaggio.

All'inizio del 2007 abbiamo cambiato casa e abbiamo aperto un nuovo workshop Galleria, dove esponiamo e vendiamo direttamente al pubblico i nostri lavori. Lo studio ad Hilton Court, Roch, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire e' in un contesto veramente bello  locato in una delle vecchie stalle vittoriane ristrutturate formanti un chiostro.  www.hiltongardensandcrafts.co.uk

Le vendite quest'anno  stanno andando bene..il tempo passa cosi' velocemente che 24 ore in una giornata non sono sufficienti per tutte le idee che abbiamo in testa e sulla carta!! Le nuove ricette che vorremmo sperimentare..le nuove forme da realizzareI nostri "gioielli" stanno avendo un certo successo e di questa nuova linea siamo particolarmente contenti.....Patrizia e' ora alla ricerca di nuovi outlets, se leggendo vi venisse in mente qualche  possibile galleria, shops, mandateci una e.mail a potwrite@tesco.net 

Io continuo a sperimentare nuove ricette e nuovi tipi di programmi, utilizzando anche il legno per ottenere durante la cottura cristalli nello smalto in colore rosso e violetto!

Non ci sembra che siano gia' passati due anni dalla nostra mostra  alla Loggetta del Trentanove di Faenza dove la straordinaria gallerista Muky ci aveva  invitati ad esporre e,  grazie alla quale, in quell'occasione il Museo Internazionale della ceramica di Faenza ha acquisito una ceramica  in esposizione permanente e la Pinacoteca comunale  un dipinto di Patrizia.

Stiamo per partire per Tokyo, Giappone!! Abbiamo l'opportunita' di prendere contatti con il mercato giapponese, proporre i nostri lavori Siamo molto eccitati all'idea di visitare una terra  culturalmente cosi' diversa, affascinante e con una tradizione per la ceramica di altissimo livello.
